Sixty tile ranges, laid the way they’d be fitted

Orrin wanted to show sixty tile ranges on floors and walls, as they’d actually be installed, rather than as boards on a wall. That meant a lot of weight, and a stand that could be taken apart without smashing everything on it.
We strengthened the raised floor with a steel sub-frame to carry about four tonnes of tile, then laid the floor tiles onto 600 × 600 mm carrier boards that clip into place.
Wall tiles went onto the same carrier boards, hung on rails. At the end of the show the boards unclipped whole, and most went back into Orrin’s showroom.
In one corner, a wet-room mock-up runs a real shower on a recirculating pump, so visitors could see how the tiles look wet and how the grout lines drain.
Along the back, a sample library of 300 pull-out drawers lets architects take home exactly the tiles they’d handled.
